Scope® Recall

Dear US Dental Professionals,

We would like to make you aware of Procter & Gamble's (P&G's) voluntary recall of a limited amount of 1-liter Scope Original Mint Mouthwash bottles due to malfunctioning child-resistant caps. While we at P&G Professional Oral Health do not sell this particular 1-liter bottle to US dental professionals, we wanted for you to be aware of this voluntary recall in case your patients should ask you questions.

We will continue to update dentalcare.com with more information about the Scope recall as it becomes available.

P&G VOLUNTARILY RECALLS SMALL PERCENTAGE OF SCOPE MOUTHWASH BOTTLES DUE TO CAP DEFECT
(CINCINNATI, June 25, 2010)

The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) (NYSE:PG) is voluntarily recalling a small percentage of 1-liter bottles of Scope Original Mint and Scope Peppermint mouthwash with malfunctioning child-resistant caps in the United States and Canada.

The company said it is taking this precautionary step after finding that the child-resistant cap does not work in a small percentage of bottles.

The affected bottles have a number 4 on the bottom of the bottle to the far right of the recycling symbol (see picture). Consumers can also attempt to twist the cap open. If the cap opens too easily without squeezing the tabs on the side of the cap, it is defective.

On a properly functioning bottle, there will be resistence if the consumer tries to twist off the cap without squeezing the tabs on the cap. On the malfunctioning bottle, the cap can be twisted off without squeezing the tabs on the cap.

Consumers can discard the affected bottle and contact P&G via the number below for a coupon or refund. Consumers who wish to continue to use the product should do so as directed, taking extra care to keep it out of the reach of children.

P&G is removing the affected bottles from store shelves and has informed the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, who support the company's action.

Any consumer who has an affected bottle can call P&G for a replacement coupon or refund at the following number: 1-877-340-8825 (Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. EDT)
